Collection: Junior High
These movie guides are recommended for junior high students. Consequently they are usually rated either PG or PG-13 or R and hence some of them aren't suited for students below the age of 13. In addition, I recommend always checking a parental review, on IMDb for example, before showing these videos to your students to check if they are suitable for your student population. Probably, the best course of action is to preview the entire movie before showing it while looking for any additional content you'd like to point out to your students.
Movies in junior high classrooms offer valuable instructional opportunities, engaging students and enriching their understanding of various subjects. Incorporating films appropriate for junior high students into the curriculum captivates their attention and enhances their learning experience.
First and foremost, movies provide visual storytelling that complements traditional teaching methods. By watching movies that align with the curriculum, students can visualize historical events, scientific concepts, and literary themes, making the subject matter more accessible and relatable.
Furthermore, movies encourage critical thinking and analysis. Through guided discussions and reflection, students can delve into the themes, messages, and social issues depicted in the films. This fosters a deeper understanding of complex topics and encourages students to think critically about their significance in today's world.
Movies also foster empathy and perspective-taking. By immersing themselves in the lives and experiences of characters, students develop a broader understanding of diverse cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives.
In conclusion, leveraging movies in junior high classrooms provides a dynamic and effective educational tool. These films bring subjects to life, inspire critical thinking, foster empathy, and encourage collaborative learning. By harnessing the power of movies, educators create engaging and memorable learning experiences.
