This Inside Out 2 (PG – 2024) Movie Guide challenges students to explore complex emotions and decision-making processes as Riley becomes a teenager. Discuss how Riley’s interactions with her emotions lead to significant personal growth and changes in her belief system. Analyze how each emotion contributes to her decisions, such as the choice to let her friend Grace score the final goal. Identify the behavior brought on by Riley’s new emotions like envy, anxiety, embarrassment and ennui. Encourage students to think about how internal conflicts shape a person’s identity and the importance of self-awareness and emotional regulation. Finally, ask students to write about whether they connect with Riley’s new belief system she creates once Joy and Anxiety stop trying to control her. Debate the accuracy of this statement: “Emotions, on their own, are not good or bad; it’s how we process them and keep them balanced that is important.”
