The Kite Runner Movie Guide (PG13 – 2007) challenges students to explore themes of friendship, family, and redemption. Discuss Amir’s struggle for his father’s approval and how this affects his relationship with Hassan. Examine Amir’s difficult path toward forgiveness and self-acceptance. Engage students in understanding the importance of family bonds and the consequences of prejudice, especially through the characters’ backgrounds. Reflect on whether Amir has truly found a way “to be good again” and how Amir’s final actions, such as defending Sohrab, show his growth and acceptance of responsibility. Finally, research the historical tensions between the Pashtuns and Hazaras, the soviet invasion and Taliban takeover, and how these tensions are depicted in the film through the relationships between Amir, Hassan, and Assef.
