Full 10 Week Science Biology Curriculum

This Full 10 Week Science Biology Curriculum is meant to supplement all 40 episodes of the Crash Course Biology Playlist on YouTube. It consists of two 5 week units; Unit 1 “Foundations of Biology and Genetics” and Unit 2 “Biology and Ecology.” This curriculum aims to provide students with a thorough understanding of biological principles, genetic mechanisms, ecological interactions, and evolutionary biology through structured learning and diverse activities.

Unit 1: Foundations of Biology and Genetics (Weeks 1-5)

• Week 1: Students gain foundational knowledge of carbon compounds, water properties, biological molecules, and eukaryotic cell structures, focusing on the chemistry of life and cell biology.
• Week 2: The course deepens students’ understanding of cellular transport mechanisms, explores plant cellular functions, and delves into ATP production and photosynthesis.
• Week 3: Emphasis is on genetic inheritance and cell division, with detailed studies on DNA structure, transcription, translation, and mitosis.
• Week 4: Students investigate the mechanisms of meiosis, natural selection, speciation, and stages of animal development, focusing on generating genetic diversity and understanding evolutionary biology.

• Week 7: Further studies on human biology cover the skeletal, muscular, immune, and endocrine systems, examining their roles in growth, movement, defense, and hormonal regulation.
• Week 8: Delving into plant biology, students explore the reproductive strategies of nonvascular and vascular plants, including their structural and functional roles within ecosystems, highlighting processes like photosynthesis and water transportation.
• Week 9: Investigation into the diversity of life through studies of evolutionary biology, focusing on comparative anatomy, the evolutionary significance of body plans, and the impact of evolutionary processes on biodiversity.

1. Print one, double-sided video guide for each student
2. Preview the next question on the video guide as you complete each one, this can help students pay attention to important upcoming events.
3. Pause at the half way point as designated on the video guide, encourage students to debate, discuss and talk about their ideas before writing their answers.
4. Discourage students from simply copying answers.
5. Randomly choose a student to share their answer and defend it if necessary.
6. If time allows, feel free to rewind and show important parts of the movie again for additional analysis.
7. On average, this video guide will require about 50 minutes total.
