Try an actual lesson free: FREE #1 What Is Myth? - Crash Course World Mythology

This complete curriculum brings together all 41 episode lesson sets plus nine weekly assessment banks, three unit assessments, one cumulative Final, the six-page Week 4 Archetypes Across Cultures student lesson, an Educator Planning Guide, and a Student Syllabus. Students compare myths across cultures while keeping narrative evidence, cultural context, and scholarly interpretation distinct.

What's Included

  • Teacher Guide, digital/print student materials, self-graded Google Forms quiz, and MC Quiz Print ecosystem for every episode
  • 9 weekly assessment sets: W01-W09
  • 3 cumulative unit assessment sets: U01-U03
  • 1 cumulative Final Assessment
  • W04 Day 4 — Archetypes Across Cultures student lesson
  • Educator Planning Guide
  • Student Syllabus
  • Print and digital classroom-use options

Course Structure

  • Unit 1 | Weeks 1-3 | #01-#12: Foundations of World Mythology — creation, pantheons, cultural evidence, and interpretation.
  • Unit 2 | Weeks 4-6 | #13-#24: Recurring Mythic Patterns — divinities, archetypes and their limits, floods, dying gods, tricksters, apocalypse, and Ragnarok.
  • Unit 3 | Weeks 7-10 | #25-#41: Heroes, Mythic Worlds & Myth's Continuing Life — hero frameworks, epic traditions, sacred places, monsters/creatures, psychology, language, and cultural memory.

Assessment System

  • W01-W09 weekly banks: 12 vocabulary, 10 A/B written-response, 30 MC each.
  • U01-U03 unit banks: 15 vocabulary, 12 A/B written-response, 40 MC each.
  • Cumulative Final: 20 vocabulary, 15 A/B written-response, 60 MC.
  • Week 10 intentionally has no separate weekly assessment; the cumulative Final replaces it.

Special Week Design

  • Week 4: #13-#15 plus the substantive Archetypes Across Cultures application lesson, then W04 assessment.
  • Week 6: #20-#24 occupy all five instructional days; W06 assessment uses flexible timing.
  • Week 10: #37-#41 occupy all five instructional days; there is no W10 weekly bank, and the cumulative Final follows flexibly after Episode #41.

Flexible Classroom Use

Use the standard 10-week sequence, compress the course into approximately five accelerated weeks, or assign units/modular clusters. Weeks 6 and 10 contain five episodes and use flexible post-week assessment timing rather than an invented sixth instructional day. Unit assessments and the Final are item-rich banks that teachers may shorten or split.

Print and Digital Options

Episode lessons and curriculum assessments support print, digital, or mixed workflows, including digital student materials, self-graded Google Forms multiple-choice quizzes where provided, print-friendly worksheets/assessments, and Multiple Choice Quiz Print versions.

New Optional Video Companion (used with YouTube)

Use the free Classroom Video Guide Companion Chrome extension with these lessons to automatically pause YouTube at question timestamps and display prompts during viewing. This optional tool can make whole-class, small-group, and independent video lessons easier to facilitate, but the resources work normally without it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the Crash Course videos included?
No. Teachers and students access the publicly available videos separately.

Does this include all 41 episode lesson sets?
Yes. The Full Curriculum combines all four episode bundles with the complete weekly, unit, Final, planning, and syllabus layer.

What is special about Week 4?
Week 4 includes three episode lessons plus the substantive Archetypes Across Cultures student lesson, which teaches students to test where archetypal comparisons help and where they oversimplify.

Do I have to assign every assessment-bank item?
No. Weekly, unit, and Final files are intentionally larger item banks. Teachers may select representative items, split a bank, or reuse unused items for review, retake, or alternate forms.

How does the course handle living religious traditions?
The curriculum uses neutral, comparative language and distinguishes source evidence from scholarly interpretation; students are not asked to decide whether a sacred tradition is true or false.

Can I use this for summer school or credit recovery?
Yes. The Educator Planning Guide includes compressed-use guidance that preserves the three-unit conceptual sequence.

Can I use this with Google Classroom?
Yes. The curriculum includes digital student materials and self-graded quiz support along with print alternatives.

Is this an official Crash Course product?
No. This independent educator-created resource is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or authorized by Crash Course, Complexly, YouTube, or related rights holders. Videos are accessed separately through publicly available sources.
