This Crash Course Full Biology Curriculum Unit 2 consists of a five-week course titled, “Biology and Ecology.” The curriculum is designed to guide students through an in-depth exploration of human body systems, human biology, plant biology and reproduction, diversity of life, and ecology and environmental biology. The course incorporates a variety of learning activities to enhance understanding of complex biological concepts and ecological dynamics.

Course Goals:

  • Week 1: Students will explore the major human body systems, focusing on the nervous, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, and excretory systems. The week emphasizes the structure, function, and integration of these systems in maintaining homeostasis and health.
  • Week 2: Students will deepen their knowledge of human biology, examining the skeletal, muscular, immune, and endocrine systems. Lessons will cover the physiological roles of these systems in growth, movement, defense, and hormonal regulation.
  • Week 3: Students will delve into plant biology and the unique reproductive strategies of both nonvascular and vascular plants. This week includes studies on plant structure, function, and the ecological roles of plants, highlighting photosynthesis, water transportation, and reproduction.
  • Week 4: Students will investigate the diversity of life through studies of evolutionary biology, examining comparative anatomy, the evolutionary significance of body plans and systems, and the impact of evolutionary processes on current biodiversity.
  • Week 5: The focus shifts to ecology and environmental biology, where students will learn about the interactions between organisms and their environments. Topics include the roles of fungi, biotic and abiotic factors, ecological conservation, and the dynamics of ecosystems and biomes.
