New Optional Video Companion (used with YouTube)
Use the free Classroom Video Guide Companion Chrome extension with these lessons to automatically pause YouTube at question timestamps and display prompts during viewing. This optional tool can make whole-class, small-group, and independent video lessons easier to facilitate, but the resource works normally without it.
The course moves from populations and communities into ecological change, ecosystem energy and matter flow, biogeochemical cycles, human impacts, pollution, conservation, and restoration. The commercial episode bundles are delivery containers; the curriculum itself follows three four-episode instructional weeks and one cumulative unit.

Course Structure
- Week 1 | Episodes #1-#4 - Foundations of Ecology: Populations & Communities
- Week 2 | Episodes #5-#8 - Interactions, Ecological Change & Ecosystem Flow
- Week 3 | Episodes #9-#12 - Nutrient Cycles, Human Impacts & Ecological Solutions
- Unit 1 | Episodes #1-#12 - Ecological Systems, Human Impacts & Conservation
Assessment System
- W01-W03 each provide 12 vocabulary terms, 10 A/B written-response questions, and 30 multiple-choice questions.
- U01 provides 15 vocabulary terms, 12 A/B written-response questions, and 40 multiple-choice questions.
- The assessment files are flexible item banks. Teachers can assign the complete bank or select the components that fit available class time.
- There is no separate cumulative Final. Because Ecology is a one-unit course, U01 serves as the flexible cumulative checkpoint after Week 3 and does not create a required Day 16.
Flexible Classroom Use
Use the regular three-week sequence, compress two episode lessons into longer blocks, select weekly items as retrieval practice, or use U01 as the primary cumulative checkpoint for summer school, credit recovery, long-term substitute coverage, make-up work, or independent study.
Print and Digital Options
Episode lessons include digital and print student materials plus self-graded Google Forms quiz support. Assessment banks can be assigned digitally, printed, split across periods, or reduced in quantity while preserving the core ecological reasoning.
