Classroom Video Guide Companion Privacy Policy
Classroom Video Guide Companion Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 30, 2026
Classroom Video Guide Companion is a Chrome extension published by K12 Movie Guides. It helps teachers import timestamped questions from a DOCX lesson guide and display those questions during classroom YouTube video playback.
Information handled by the extension
The extension handles only the information needed to provide its classroom lesson features:
- DOCX contents selected by the teacher, including timestamped and end-of-film questions.
- Teacher-created guide names, questions, edits, and locally exported guide content.
- The current YouTube video title, video ID or URL, playback time, duration, playback state, and fullscreen state.
- Extension settings, including the selected guide and Auto-Pause & Fullscreen preference.
Local processing and storage
DOCX files are read and parsed locally in Chrome. Imported guides and settings are stored in chrome.storage.local on the user's device. The extension does not upload DOCX files, guide contents, YouTube playback information, or extension settings to K12 Movie Guides servers.
No accounts, analytics, advertising, or data sales
The extension does not require an account. It does not include analytics, advertising trackers, third-party tracking scripts, or behavioral advertising. K12 Movie Guides does not sell, rent, or share extension data with third parties.
Chrome permissions
- Storage: saves guides and preferences locally.
- Side panel: displays the teacher guide beside YouTube.
- Tabs: identifies and communicates with the active YouTube tab.
- YouTube host access: reads the current video's identifying and playback information, seeks or pauses playback, manages teacher-controlled fullscreen mode, and displays questions over the video.
Student information
The extension is designed as a teacher-controlled classroom tool. It does not create student accounts, collect student names, record student responses, or transmit student information.
Retention and deletion
Locally stored guides and settings remain on the device until the user deletes a guide, clears the extension's storage, resets the browser profile, or uninstalls the extension. Files exported by a user are controlled by that user after download.
Security
The extension performs its document parsing and data storage locally and does not transmit extension data to an external server. All executable code is packaged with the extension; it does not download or execute remote code.
Limited Use disclosure
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when the extension's functionality or applicable requirements change. The effective date above will be revised when material changes are published.
